Vålerenga Fotball is protesting the 3-3 match against Kristiansund. Kristiansund player Leander Næss Alvheim was not eligible to play. The match in the capital ended 3-3 after a strong comeback from Vålerenga. Kristiansund led 3-0 before Vålerenga caught up with only ten men on the field. VIF's daily manager, Svein Graff, says to TV2 that they have decided to protest due to the rules of Norwegian football. If the protest is upheld, the match can end 3-0 and Kristiansund can lose the point that secured them a place in next year's elite series. Leander Næss Alvheim received his third yellow card for KBK this year against Strømsgodset in the previous round. Including a yellow card for Ranheim from the 1st division earlier in the season, it may indicate that the player was not eligible to play in Saturday's match. It was apparently not clear to Kristiansund before Saturday's match. The player was substituted off the field shortly before the pause signal and looked questioning when he took the trip over the sideline. Kristiansund's sports manager, Eirik Hoseth, said to TV 2 during the break that they as a club are concerned with fair play, and that they therefore take Alvheim out of the game. Isah Ubandoma and Niklas Ødegård made sure that it was 3-0 when the clock ticked 83 minutes. Substitutes Promise Meliga and Petter Strand were responsible for the catch-up in the last six minutes of the game. This was Vålerenga's last home game of the season. TV 2 commentator Petter Bø Tosterud made the viewers aware of the situation with Alvheim halfway into the first half. KBK coach Amund Skiri is said to have reacted strongly when he received a message during the game. And it is not clear what consequences such a rule breach can have. In 2024, Mjøndalen was deducted a point when they broke the same rule in the 1st division. Point deduction can create excitement in the relegation battle. Kristiansund needed at least one point from the last two games of the year to survive in the Elite Series, as long as qualifying place Bryne secures full points in their last two games of the season. On Saturday, they played themselves to a point when it ended 3-3 in Oslo. KBK was up in an impressive 3-0 lead after Vålerenga's Henrik Bjørdal was sent off, but the hosts fought back at the end. So it's exciting to see what happens with the protest and how it will affect the relegation battle.
