Vålerenga Fotball has requested a loan of three million from supporter group Klanen due to liquidity challenges. The club must replace the artificial turf at Intility Arena, which will cost around three million kroner. Talsmann for Klanen, Sebastian Hytten, confirms that it is Vålerenga Fotball that has requested the loan. It is worth noting that this has nothing to do with Vålerengas herrelag, which is under the company Vålerenga Fotball Elite. Hytten will not say how much money Klanen has in the fund, or how large a loan Vålerenga Fotball has asked for. However, the current CEO of Vålerenga Fotball, Stephan Gundersen, does. – We have asked to borrow three million kroner, says Gundersen to VG. The reason is that the club is in a situation he calls a «liquidity crisis». – In the summer months, the club has liquidity challenges. It is because Football-Norway is set up so that 50 percent of our income comes in the last quarter, while the operation runs for the entire year, he explains. He also points out that the artificial turf at Intility Arena will be replaced in the summer, and that it will be reused on one of their artificial turf pitches at Valle. For this, the club must come up with around three million kroner, according to Gundersen. Vålerenga Fotball owns 100 percent of Vålerenga Stadion AS, the company that operates Intility Arena. Hytten in Klanen says that it is not common to receive applications like the one the supporter group has on the table now. – It is not, but it is because the money is in a reserve fund, so that it can be used in special cases related to women's activity, he says. Through dialogue with Vålerenga Fotball, Klanen has been told that there is a high probability that they will get the money back from a potential loan. – When the income comes in at the end of the year, we will pay it back in full, says Gundersen. The board of Klanen has not come up with a statement on how they will stand on the application, and Hytten will not speculate on how the annual meeting will vote on the proposal. – All members of Klanen are happy with Vålerenga, so we will probably stretch as far as possible to help the club if it is possible, he says. Gundersen says that they have other alternatives if the money from Klanen does not come. – It will be that we borrow the money from someone else, such as a bank or another partner. Vålerenga Fotball ended 2025 with a loss of over 5.55 million kroner, after budgeting for a profit of around 3.58 million kroner. There were several reasons for this, according to the annual report: – Kiosk sales and own events and cups delivered a result that was about four million kroner weaker than budgeted – Income from training fees was significantly lower than budgeted – The cost of the bonus agreement for the women's team players after their participation in the Champions League was not budgeted at the start of the year – Is the situation precarious, or? – You are probably looking for sensational headlines, but I can't give you that because it's not over
