Ghayas Zahid returns to Vålerenga Fotball After months of training, Ghayas Zahid (31) has officially signed for Vålerenga Fotball. The midfielder, who grew up on Mortensrud, returns to the club after previously playing 118 games and scoring 29 goals for the royal blues. - It feels great to be back home! I’ve been here for a while now, but getting everything finalized is a relief. It’s been a really good feeling to be here, Zahid tells the club. ## What happened? Zahid, who previously played for APOEL FC, Panathinaikos, Ankaragücü and Partizan Beograd, has now signed a deal with Vålerenga Fotball until 2027. He has two caps for Norway and scored the emergency national team’s only goal against Austria in 2020. After his spell in Serbia ended, Zahid trained with Vålerenga at Intility Arena. Many fans wanted him back, and now their wish has been fulfilled. ## Why is this important for Vålerenga Fotball? Manager Johannes Moesgaard is delighted to have Zahid on board. - I actually don’t think he planned to come home, and he was looking at alternatives abroad. But he says himself that he feels some energies he wants to be a part of. He’s giving up some opportunities to be here instead of continuing abroad. That alone shows we’re getting a man with his head and heart in the right place, says Moesgaard. Zahid is an experienced midfielder who can contribute with both goals and game understanding. He will be an important part of the team in the coming season. ## What’s next? Vålerenga Fotball plays away against Aalesund on Sunday at 14:30. Due to paperwork, it is still uncertain if Zahid will be eligible to play. Currently sidelined: F. Ambina, M. Sjoeng, M. Westergaard.
